The Dragon

The Dragon was a huge project. This monster took me six months and endless hours of of fun.
First I took two wall racks and sized them up for this project.

Then I made 104 tiles of pennies that had 98 pennies each on them. With a stain to tint tin coins I made all of them relatively the same patina.

This is both panels together 4 ft. x 8 ft. weighing in at over 150 lbs.

Now the fun begins. From here on out is and airbrush, engraving and hand painted. Every line and scale is engraved by hand. The trick was that pennies are not solid copper anymore. When you scratch then they are white and the they can be painted. When the scales are engraved and you walk by it the engraving effect looks like it moves.
I did not know any of this when I started this.

Me putting on the finishing touches on about an hour before delivery.

Jacob, Incognito

Jacob is one of the coolest and biggest pieces I've done for a long time.He took about 14 days and over 100 hours to complete. The entire piece drawn in Pin and Ink. I'm not real big on the whole Angel thing, but I got to thinking, If I was going to Heaven or Hell who would I want to take me.

I love the human form, male or female. It's the one thing you can't fake or cheat on because everyone knows what it looks like.

All I can say about Emma is Remarkable, This is the first and last piece I will ever do with a live subject in front of me. She was up there for four hours while I was frantically sketching her. I was contacted by a photography friend of mine who was getting ready for a photo shoot. she had seen some of my drawings and wanted one. I was there an hour later. It took me about an hour to realize she was just as nervous as I was. She told me "this is what I do, I can be up here as long as it takes.

As a thanks I had drawn two originals

one for her and one for me

The Queen

The Queen is one of the pieces that I really wanted to do for several reasons. 1, What a great opportunity to give me a brain tumor, 2. I get allot of requests to do wedding portraits. And one of the biggest things in the pictures that demand allot of attention is the Wedding gown. This was the piece I had decided to practice drawing lace. It was a good opportunity for me to do the detail. It gave me the confidence to better pieces.

This is a portrait of a guy that I just had to do. Every day, twice a day he would collect cans in our neighborhood with a smile. He never seemed upset about anything and always said hello. But most importantly he tough me a lesson. In my griping and groaning about my job taking time away from what I really wanted to do (sitting on my fat ass and drawing all day) I should be grateful and I am. From him I've gained wisdom in which I will never be able to repay except in tribute to his beauty inside and out. I hope I did him justice.

Commissioned animals

I love drawing animals. And Just recently I've gotten good enough to attempt this with the effect I wanted. The Leopard is done in Pen and ink. 12 x 18 This was one of the first pieces I've done this small with this much detail. Believe me there will be more to come

The Ram and Gorilla and Elephant are commissions for Bree in Las Vegas Nevada Done in Graphite pencil (Thank you Margret). These are the first pieces I've done with this medium and they turned out great.

The Elephant was huge 36 x 48 with my penny frames.

New ideas

This is the beginning of a new piece that I've been wanting to do for a while. It will consist of 25 individual portraits of children in one piece that will be about 36 x 48 in. entitled (6:30) I'll keep you posted on it's progress.
